Let’s get going.
Personal insight
During the Product Hunt launch of MakerBox Frameworks, I felt something was off.
We were getting too much money.
I’ve decided to compare this launch with the previous one. Here’s what I’ve found.
MakerBox Frameworks has fewer visitors than MakerBox Tools (even though I got x3 more followers on Twitter)
The conversion from the landing page to the Gumroad page is almost identical.
MakerBox Frameworks has a 200% higher conversion rate from the Gumroad page to the purchase.
MakerBox Frameworks has a 250% higher average order value
All of this led to a remarkable 400% increase in launch revenue.
OK, enough bragging. Here is my point.
You don’t need more visitors. You need a better offer.
We could spend three months acquiring new users for MakerBox Tools.
Instead, we launched a more valuable and expensive product.
Maybe you should, too?
Marketing tactic
Launching on Product Hunt is a routine already.
You get some traffic, and in one week, it’s gone.
But there is a less-known way to get more users — Product Hunt Discussions.
Product Hunt Discussions works like any forum. Post content in groups, upvote and engage in the comments.
Here is what makes it unique.
It’s friendly for self-promotion
It notifies your Product Hunt followers about the new post
It features some discussions on the front page
We’ve been engaging here for the last three months. And the results are incredible.
Look at the number of upvotes and comments:
What lead magnets have you tried to get users? (featured on the front page)
To empathize even more. I asked to roast the landing page of MakerBox Roasting recently. Got my first customer from that post.
This is what the landing page looked like 😂
Here is your guide to unlocking the power of Product Hunt Discussions:
Post on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Later it’s almost impossible to beat the number of upvotes and get featured.
Include the link to your product or content, but don’t make it look like an ad. Always add learning or tips.
Only post in the popular groups. You can get them by analyzing the top 10 posts.
Ask questions that spark comments. The more comments you have, the easier it is to rank higher.
Engage with every comment. Don’t forget to upvote other comments.
See you at Product Hunt Discussions the next Monday at 12:01 PT!
Product for inspiration
No-code website builders are taking over the world.
How can you compete with big players like Webflow and Carrd?
The answer — niche down.
Today at a glance: yep a simple website builder by nocodelife.
Here are three remarkable things you should pay attention to:
Yep focuses on the single use case — validate the idea and get sign-ups. Everything else is out of scope.
Niche down to one use case and nail it. You can add additional use cases later. It’s better than “focusing” on multiple use cases from the start.
Yep claims to build a landing page in 15 minutes. This frame grabs my attention instantly. Having a time guarantee is a superpower.
Find your time guarantee. How much does it take from signing up to solving the problem with your product? Add it to your value proposition.
Yep’s core feature is rapid idea validation. The word “fast” is seen 9 (!) times on this short landing page. This is what I call an alignment.
Understand your main value feature. Then, repeat it multiple times on your landing page. Make it easy to remember.
Thought-provoking question
What emotions does your product provoke?
Imagine that you’ve downloaded a fitness app. Yes, another one.
You’ve started the onboarding session. What emotions would you feel?
It depends on the product’s positioning:
Empowerment (training after an injury)
Challenged (get ready for Ironman Triathlon)
Confidence (science-based program)
Fun (group sessions with friends)
Adventurous (explore secret run routes)
It would feel weird to be challenged while working out with friends.
Here is a simple exercise for your product.
What is your product’s positioning?
In what emotional state do users come to you?
What emotions should they feel while solving the problem with your product?
What emotions should they feel after solving the problem?
How can you embed these emotions in your marketing and product funnel?
What emotions should you never provoke? Why?
Focusing on customers’ emotions is a shortcut to getting loyal fans.
Great resource
I’ve seen too many poor landing pages.
Many Indie Entrepreneurs would rather polish the login flow than improve their landing page.
If you care about getting paying customers, here is an ultimate landing page guide.
It is pure gold.
How to write a converting Heading 1?
How to describe your product?
How to handle objections?
How to leverage social proof?
The best article about landing pages I’ve read.
That’s it!
Thanks for reading my newsletter. Have a lovely weekend ❤️
